I bought a XL Classic yesterday from Halfords & came with UK, ROI and Western Europe maps. When I plugged it into TomTom Home, it come up saying there was an update to my maps (the Western Europe one).
So I downloaded it and when it transferred across it came up saying I needed to activate the map. Problem is I can't find any activation codes - nothing in the box or on the receipt. Then I went to manage my TomTom and deleted the Western Europe map. Now when I turn on the TomTom it says it can't find any maps. So what do I do? Try a factory reset (but will that mean I get my original maps back) or try and get my activation code from somewhere? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike, I know where the maps are on my PC. I've just transferred over the 1gb Western Europe map but when I try to load it up on the TomTom (or go to Operate my XL) is comes up with a red screen saying: Problem with map You cannot use this map on this device: WesternEurope1GB If I go to Manage my device and have a look at the maps section it shows the Western Europe map but it says 'This item cannot be used on this device because it needs to be activated first' So to me it seems like I'm back to the activation problem - where do I get the activation key from? I've got a serial number on the bottom of the box but I can't find any group of letters and digits (a total of 15 I believe?) Thanks for your help. Hi - thanks for your help although I'm not sure I'm explaining it properly. I know where the map is, I've even transferred it back to the TomTom device but when I load up the device & try to select the map it says: Problem with map You cannot use this map on this device: WesternEurope1GB If I go to Manage my device and have a look at the maps section it shows the Western Europe map but it says 'This item cannot be used on this device because it needs to be activated first' So to me it seems like I'm back to the activation problem - where do I get the activation key from?
I've got a serial number on the bottom of the box but I can't find any group of letters and digits (a total of 15 I believe?). Ok, I downloaded that clear flash app and ran it 3 times but still have the same problem. Just continues to say: Problem with map You cannot use this map on this device: WesternEurope1GB I've been looking into how to get this activation code and I keep reading that I need a product code which I don't seem to have. I got a little shrink-wrapped box when I bought it - there's no CD (so no activation code on it) and one crappy little user manual which doesn't have any codes on it.
There's no other paper in the box. On if I hit Lost my product code it just takes me to the support section which tells me the usual stuff:. None of this is applicable because I didn't get a CD & my TomTom home app says I need to activate Any idea on where else I can find it? Mate there is no satellite bars - the TomTom won't boot up all the way because it says my map isn't supported. I can't get any further or do anything else on the actual device.
Seems like it won't work without have a map on it. Also I called Halfords to figure out where this product code is & they told me to look on the bottom of the device. So I did & it's just got the same serial number that's on the box.
Problem is it's 12 characters long (mixture of numbers & letters) but the product activation page on the TomTom site says it's an invalid code. So once again I'm stuck. Going to call up TomTom UK when I get a chance. Any other ideas? Thanks for your time.
If you're talking about the ClearFlash application yes I ran it three times. I didn't try and reupload the map though - is that what I should be going? As for following the instructions on no I didn't do this. The problem to me seems like something to do with activation. I can download and copy the map to the device fine.
Game For Windows Live Activation Code
If the device is disconnected from my PC I can turn it on but the first page just says the Western Europe map isn't compatible and that's it - I can't see or do anything else. So this is why I don't think it's a problem copying the map - it's how to activate it the map (which again seems strange to me - the device worked fine until I did this recommended update of the map).
Hello I have an XL340.TM. I was well into a first time FREE Lifetime map download using the promotion code but had to abort the process. My own error. When I tried to restart the down load the system tells me I can't use the promotion code more than once? But I haven't used it yet, I aborted the download process! If you only get one shot, how can that be a lifetime supply? Can anyone tell me how to get my FREE map upgrades now that I have apparently unsuccessfully used my one shot at this promotion? Hi there, are you logged in with the TT Home application and your e-mail-address is shown in the top right corner?
If not do so. Also please tell us which map version do you have installed on your device?
The latest map version is still v875 but this month there should be another version published which will be v880. The free map update promo code will only work for the US, Canada & Mexico map (may also be called North America map). So for all other maps you'll need a separate map update subscription if you'd like to update those maps as well. Regards Lars. I cannot get my lifetime maps either. I spoke to customer service and I am being told that they don't see that I have lifetime maps.
The only reason I bought it was for the free lifetime maps. I was told to email them with my receipt or a picture of the box where it says about the maps!
They cannot go by the serial number. I cannot believe the run around. I am so displeased with the whole TomTom experience. The other thing is that I had a TomTom and then purchased the new one for the maps. I went to my account online to register the new TomTom and update it. The old TomTom info is on the new TomTom now!
Customer Service told me I bought a map for the new TomTom. I said I bought it for the old TomTom. Nothing popped up or alerted me that you can only have one device on the account. Customer Service had me make a new account now but it certainly did not change all the mess has been created and I STILL DONT HAVE MY LIFETIME MAPS! Hi, you may find out your device's exact name by using the link below: Below I'll explain the meaning of the description:.
XXL540M: you'll have a XXL540 with lifetime map updates for the North American map. XXL540T: you'll have a XXL540 with lifetime traffic, so you'll have the TMC receiver delivered with your device.
XXL540TM: you'll have a XXL540 with both features already described. XXL540S: you'll have neither lifetime map updates nor lifetime traffic but only the text-to-speech functionality.Regards Lars.
Well you don't need to keep the box, just the activation code that was on a card marked in large red letters 'IMPORTANT - DO NOT DISCARD YOU WILL NEED THIS VOUCHER CODE IN ORDER TO ENABLE YOUR LIFETIME MAPS SUBSCRIPTION' It was laying on top of the gps's when you opened each of the three boxes. You have to phyically pick it up to get to the gps.
However Tomtom is willing to activate the subscription if you can prove that you actually got a model with lifetime maps (ie you have the box ). Vendors have been known to advertise lifetime maps but ship units that don't come with it. Unfortunitely, I missed the label you are talking about and didnt read the manual deep enough to catch the fact that you had to activate the advertised free map update by typing in some promotional code, I just thought it would automatically come with the unit that was in the advertised box, I bought the units from Traget. The map that is in the unit cannot find many street addresses which is frustrating, I got it last Christmas and I have an older Garmin that finds the addresses everytime, so Tom Tom must have put a pretty old map in the units I bought. If I am lucky I will be able to find the all important boxes/label in my garage if they didnt get thrown out.
I talked to someone in support. They told me that I have to have a separate email account for each device I have. Our newer one took on our old device's info. Then they said I had to email support to make a complaint since I am unhappy about paying for lifetime maps, not being able to get them, and for not being told that if I didn't use another email account everything would get messed up. Amritvani download. They emailed to send a copy of my receipt and serial number but then they didn't like the format I used to send the copy.
They wanted it in a different format. I did that but never heard back from them. I just emailed them again for a second attempt. I have to XL540M but do not have the promotion code, box the unit came in, or the receipt any more since it was purchased a year ago. When I spoke with Tom Tom they said the only way I can get the free map update offer is if I had one of the above. They said they sold some of these modeled units without the free map update offer so you 'Cannot' Go by the model number.
Free Tomtom Map Activation Code
Basically I am just going to have to replace this unit with a Garmin since their maps find more streets then my Tom Tom does. I am not going to purchase a map from Tom Tom since I was supposed to get them free but unfortunately I did not look closer at the paperwork that came with the unit to notice the requirement to enter a promotion code. I did not read everything on the box when I threw it away.
One would expect that the serial number would give Tom Tom the info they need to upgrade my maps. I am now royally annoyed. I've been using my Tom Tom for maybe two years, no complaints.but noticed a few times the map was not current, so thought I'd sit down the update (for FREE I thought). I've been trying to find a 'contact us' phone number, no luck with that. But from what I am reading I am out of luck.
Rather than update, I'd rather pay more and purchase a new one.NOT Tom Tom. And, I was just about to BUY Europe maps.forget it. I don't like the way they operate. I did not read all of the material, because my prior gps was also a Tom Tom (which fell off the windscreen.often.and one time it broke the glass and they don't fix the glass).
But I bought another Tom Tom and stick it to the dash (and it falls off that too!!!!). But I already knew how to operate this new Tom Tom, so I tossed the box.
Forget Tom Tom. I think I'll be checking out Garmin's. What a disappointment.
I'll try first to see if there is a contact us that I've missed.but if I don't find it soon I'm giving up on this company. They lost my European map sale.and any future sales.

Hi all, the lifetime maps are only available for North American users. When purchasing the device you should find a card in your box on which stands DO NOT DISCARD!! As well as a promotion code which you'll have to enter in the Activate Code menu. Sometimes you also get a wrong device sold due to some shop errors. You can check your exact model using the following link: target='self If you are enabled to receive lifetime maps you should have a model number like either XXL540M or XXL540TM.
Important is the M as it symbolizes the lifetime maps. All other users: You won't find an activation code as this a single North American promotion and therefore you'll have to purchase the 1 year map update subscription. Regards Lars. Hi Serge, did you change the account in between? If not did you try to reenter your activation code? If not try if it helps.
If all that doesn't help I recommend contacting CS and giving them the details about your problem. Maybe you'll have to provide them with proof about your purchase. Therefore it is helpful to have pictures of the purchase receipt, the device with the serial number readable, the box of the device best also with readable serial number as well as a picture of the promotion code card. When giving them all that proof they'll re-enable the map update service for you I'm sure. US phone CS: 866 486 6866 Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. To 11:00 p.m. EST Saturday: 9:00 a.m.
EST Regards Lars.
